Natural or Synthetic Modern Rugs?
When you are looking for modern rugs for your home, you are faced with numerous decisions that need to be made. Are you going to go for a large one that can help to fill a room or a smaller one to fit into a certain area? Do you go for something that has a bright and bold pattern on it or something that has a plain and understated look? As well as the aesthetic variations that are available to buy, you will also be able to choose between different materials. A rug can be manufactured out of a number of fibres so is it a natural one that you want, one that is made of man made material or maybe one made with a blend of the two. We have given you some basic information regarding the three types below and hope this will assist you in your decision making.
Natural Fibres – If you would prefer something that is made from completely natural materials then there is still a number of choices that you will have available. You can choose from a rug that is made from sisal, coir, wool, seagrass or jute. Each variety will have different looks and textures and the type that you decide to go for will ultimately depend on your own personal style preference. A rug made from natural fibres can last for long periods of time if looked after properly and they will also generally have a better quality than those made from a synthetic material. The main disadvantage of these types is the fact that they can cost more than those made from other materials.
Synthetic Fibres – A man made rug will usually be manufactured using viscose, nylon, acrylic or polypropylene. You will find that you can get these varieties in almost any colour and pattern that you could possibly want. The synthetic materials make them fairly stain resistant as well and they can be a lot cheaper than something made from 100% natural fibres. Clearly the biggest negative regarding these is the fact that they will more often than not be of a lesser quality than a natural rug. This can mean that they will retain their original quality for a shorter period of time and are not as durable.
Natural Blend – These are made with a mixture of synthetic and natural materials but usually using wool. Purchasing one of these can get some of the best points from both fibres, with the cost generally being lower than those made from 100% natural and the quality being higher than a synthetic variety.
If you are unsure about your choices when looking for modern rugs you should talk to a professional who will be more than happy to assist you in your decision making.
